Hi friends
Coming out of anther triple header, I am really looking forward to a weekend off. But don’t worry, the recap will still be here to keep you up to date, even though there’s no F1.
Top story of the week: Aston Martin confirms Enrico Cardile as Chief Technical Officer from next season
Aston Martin has announced that one of the Ferrari Enricos are joining the team as Chief Technical Officer from next season.
Why is this important? This is another high profile signing for Aston Martin, who have not been shy about their intentions to beef up their technical capabilities for a run at the top spots, when the new regulations come into effect in 2026. Cardile, previously head of Ferrari’s chassis department, has played an instrumental part in developing the aero package that has kept Ferrari close to the front.
It’s also important, because it’s another piece of the Adrian Newey puzzle. Newey, who was rumoured to be in talks with Aston Martin, is presumably no longer an option, given that Cardile will take up the role as CTO – a role that Newey would have been hired for. Meanwhile, Ferrari TP Vasseur will oversee the chassis department himself, while they look for a replacement. Normally, you’d have a clear line of succession for senior leadership positions, so the fact that it’s Vasseur being the interim head of department, tells me that Ferrari may be holding that spot for someone not currently in their organisation.
